In the context of the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the deepening of China Africa cooperation, China's manufacturing industry is helping Africa's infrastructure construction with its "hard core" strength. Recently, China's Cangzhou Spiral Welded Pipe Manufacturing Group successfully completed the first phase of the supply task for the large-scale infrastructure project in Maputo, Mozambique, Africa. 5700 tons of high-strength steel pile pipes crossed the ocean and arrived on the west coast of the Indian Ocean, injecting solid support for the expansion of ports, energy bases, or road and bridge construction in the country (adjusted according to the actual use of the project). This cooperation is not only a model of international production capacity cooperation, but also a microcosm of the close connection between China's steel pipe manufacturing technology and global sustainable development needs.
Project Background
Mozambique, as an important coastal country in southeastern Africa, has abundant natural resources and strategic location advantages. Its capital Maputo is the economic hub of the country and a key port city of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). In recent years, the Mozambican government has actively promoted the "2030 Development Strategy", focusing on upgrading transportation networks, port facilities, and energy infrastructure to enhance regional connectivity and disaster resilience.
However, the local industrial foundation is weak, and the high-strength and corrosion-resistant steel pile pipes required for large-scale infrastructure projects have long relied on imports. This type of pile pipe needs to adapt to the high temperature and high humidity marine climate and complex geological conditions in Maputo, and has extremely high requirements for product corrosion resistance, compressive strength, and dimensional accuracy. Chinese spiral welded pipe enterprises have become the preferred supplier for project partners with mature processes and cost advantages.
Piling Pipe Project
Project Highlights
From raw material traceability to factory testing, the entire process adopts digital control, with a one-time pass rate of over 99.8% for welds, ensuring the safety and reliability of the product.

Raw material traceability: All steel comes from large state-owned steel mills, and each batch is accompanied by an EN 10204-3.1 metallurgical material report, achieving full traceability from steelmaking to finished products.
Process innovation: Adopting the "pre precision welding" spiral welding technology (forming first and then welding), the first pass qualification rate of the weld seam reaches 99.8%, far exceeding the industry average level.
Strict control of testing: Equipped with fully automatic ultrasonic testing (UT) and real-time X-ray imaging (RTR) systems, 100% non-destructive testing of welds is carried out to ensure the safety and reliability of pile pipes under extreme loads.
Logistics Challenge
5700 tons of steel pipes have a huge volume, and transporting them from Chinese ports to Maputo requires crossing the Indian Ocean, facing multiple challenges such as tight shipping space, high lifting risks, and rainy season delays. Enterprises ensure timeliness through the following measures:
Modular packaging: Fix the pile tubes layer by layer in a customized steel frame, and use moisture-proof cotton and anti-collision strips to reduce the shipping loss rate to below 0.5%;

Localized collaboration: Collaborate with local logistics companies in Mozambique to plan port unloading and land transportation routes in advance, avoiding urban traffic peaks.
Steel Dragon, Connecting the Future of Central Africa
The 5700 ton spiral welded pipe not only carries the weight of concrete and steel structures, but also represents a commitment to the shared development opportunities between China and Africa. As more Chinese manufacturing enterprises go global with the dual wheel drive of "technology+service", this "iron and steel link" across the Indian Ocean will certainly inject lasting impetus into the industrialization process of the "the Belt and Road" countries.
Application area: Coastal geology with high temperature and humidity
